on an impulse, steam-sautéing carrots in cherry tea. so tasty, i'm eating them with my fingers, as they cook. pale spray on gray bark / lingering, hill glowing, green / moss on every tree. #autumn #haiku this illness has not pummeled me, so much as pinned me down, like a heavy and persistent sibling sitting on my chest. #sick outside, through a break in the clouds, the waxing moon so bright its reflection makes be think a light is on my car. if we'd had laptops and Netflix when i was a kid, i might have remained sick-in-bed forever. trying to sleep-off a bug i picked up in my travels, craving (confession:) instant chicken soup (childhood comfort food). West Virginia still mucking through this day's perpetual grey drizzle and mist, an evening coffee in a diner evokes three in the morning. having packed for a long weekend, in late October, i'm happy to finally be driving home to @HearthHill, with @Natterjack. hoping for another urban treat, the faux gyro at Double-T Diner is preformed meat strips dripping with a soulless tzasiki. can i approach a brown-skinned clerk, order and buy "a small organic Mexican", then deny i am an imperialist running dog? leaving behind my dear friends in Arlington, excited to visit today with Rory and Nik. sleep, like food, never tastes better than when you've been too long without it. likewise for visiting with loved ones. standing in an urban alcove. blowing at cross purposes, the smell of three separate cuisines. #city driving through nearly naked marshlands, the sun on my back, a bagel on my lap, Falls Church 3 states and 4 hours away. the cup that will keep me up http://bit.ly/2Fe0Qt the cup the kept me up http://bit.ly/Bgib1 after an essentially perfect meal at Freda's Cafe in Cape May, i look forward to sampling more of their menu, in the future. |
